CERAMEXCEL Introduce the ‘GREENWAY’ Concept from Marca Corona
Italian manufacturer Marca Corona launched Eco Living and Eco Marmo at the 2009 International tile show in Cersaie, Bologna. Both ranges are full bodied porcelain and contain a minimum of 40% recycled material.
40% of water used in production is recycled saving the equivalent of 40 million litre bottles of water and excess heat generated during production is used to heat other areas of the workplace. As a result of this 1000 tonnes of methane is prevented from being released into the atmosphere which further decreases emissions of greenhouse gases by almost 3000 tonnes per year and equates to gas emissions from 1500 cars in a year.
Raw material which fails to meet Marca Corona’s high standards prior to firing is reintroduced into the manufacturing process saving 800 tonnes of raw waste.
Eco Marmo is one of the first ceramic products to use post consumer material derived from the salvage of TVs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors which can be sourced locally reducing transport and CO2 emissions.
Introducing Cathode Ray Tubes to the manufacturing process means a 600×600mm tile contains 1.5kg of recycled glass and a 70m2 project would contain the same amount of glass found in 30 television sets.
CERAMEXCEL – Providing a MORE Luxurious Feel
CERAMEXCEL were briefed by AFL Architects in Manchester, to come up with a concept to provide a floor tile for one of their major office developments in the city on behalf of a prestigious client.
Working to a strict budget a large format was required to be a minimum of 600mm square.
The designers needed a high performance porcelain tile which would be easy to clean and maintain the crisp contemporary vision which had been sold to the occupiers.
The wall cladding in the lift areas needed to make a statement and yet compliment the floor tiles.
CERAMEXCEL’S solution was to propose a full bodied white porcelain floor tile, Lux from the More Range, provided the perfect clean, light functional characteristics required.
The profiled SCRATCH design for the wall cladding introduced an interesting feature whilst maintaining the crisp white shade achieved with the floors.
From the initial enquiry, material was on site within two weeks which enabled the contractor to install the tiles during the Christmas holiday period allowing the official handover on the 4th January 2010.
